The Georgia Forages and Grasslands Council’s mission is to promote and facilitate the environmental and economic sustainability of Georgia’s forage industry and its resources.

Fall Field Day & Pasture Walk at
River Raised Farm

Georgia Forage and Grassland Council is honored to be hosted by River Raised Farm in Ball Ground, Georgia for our fall event. This is a unique opportunity to visit a successful suburban operation that incorporates a rotational grazing system on a small acreage beef operation.

The first-generation family operation is committed to stewardship, sustainability and limited inputs on their farm, which borders the Etowah River. The 60 acre operation has 30 acres dedicated to grazing their herd of 25 Dexters. They employ soil health principles and use a rotational grazing system to ensure healthy forages and soils. With help from Greene Grazing Management, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, and UGA Cooperative Extension, they designed a small acreage management plan that works for them and built the necessary infrastructure.   Their next goal is to incorporate silvopasture into their program.

River Raised Farm offers grass-fed beef, fresh eggs, pasture poultry, honeybees, and more, and the Nichelsons are eager to share their passion with others. Their ultimate goal is to build a self-sufficient farm that will thrive for generations.  

Registration is $10 and includes lunch.
